What is a School Council ?
A school council is a group of elected and appointed
representatives of the local school community.
School councils have been established by government
to involve parents and community members more
directly in schools.
Why have a School Council ?
The Schools Act requires that we have a school
council as it has been acknowledged that parental
participation has a positive effect on student
learning. Also, collaboration among all groups can
bring an improvement to education.
Its purpose is to develop, encourage and promote
policies, practices and activities that will enhance
the quality of school programs and the levels of
student achievement in the school.

What is the role of a
School Council ?
School Council is responsible for working with
parents, teachers, students and the community to
review the direction of the school, identify
educational priorities, recommend strategies for
achieving goals, and assess and report progress.
The School Council is a body whereby parents, school
staff and concerned community representatives can
pool their knowledge, talents and resources in order
to improve teaching and learning at the school
level.
Mission Statement
“The School Council of Holy Family is dedicated to
developing policy, in partnership with other key
stakeholders, that will promote a healthy, safe,
enjoyable, nurturing, academic environment to
enhance the quality of education for all students.”
Term of Office
Members of the School Council will serve a maximum
of three years and will be eligible for election or
appointment to one further term of three years.
Elections and appointments will be staggered so that
no more than one third of the members are replaced
in a given year.

the call of the Chair. The first Thursday of
the month is reserved for meetings.
