ArtsSmarts

On Friday November 25, students in
grade five had the opportunity to interview Mr Myrle Vokey
as part of the ArtsSmarts program which will begin in the
school in December.
Ken Murphy from the Newfoundland
and Labrador Arts Council and our three cooperating artists
(Pat Ryan, Darrell Power and Catherine Wright) were present
to hear children ask Mr Vokey a series of questions about
his life.
These questions, along with Mr
Vokey’s highly entertaining and informative stories, led
students to a better understanding of the way rural life in
Newfoundland used to be.
Our artists will use this
interview as a catalyst for the creation (with students) of
art projects in songwriting, dance, and using watercolour
painting.
